Swimming has many benefits to your health and well being. It can improve your cardiovascular system, help to build up muscle groups with a low risk of injuries. It can also help you to lose weight and work out for longer without pain or strain as the body is supported in the water. It can help your overall fitness and flexibility and can improve running and cycling which all link together.
Swimming also helps with your mental health, producing endorphins, the happy and feel good hormones which can help to reduce stress and anxiety. Studies show that it can boost your brain health, due to the fact that while you are swimming and being in the water your blood flow increases to the brain. Studies have also suggested that immersing yourself in natural or sea water in the open air is particularly good for positive mental wellbeing.
Personally as the daughter of an Osteopath I agree with these studies as I really enjoy going to Hayling Island and swimming there. I also really enjoy swimming at the Petersfield Open Air Pool. Which also gives a natural feeling while you’re swimming in the open air reducing your stress and anxiety whilst getting fit and healthy. What more could you want? Feeling good about yourself whilst training and increasing your stamina.
